Book Club Nominations

13 Oct

book clubMy Book Club M is picking books for the first 6 months (or so) of 2010.  We use a somewhat unusual method of voting.

Here are our nominees– what would you choose? Has your book club discussed any of these?

I haven’t read any of the books listed, but a couple really stand out as ones I want to read: Olive Kitteridge and A Prayer for the Dying. Oh, and Blind Assassin. Someday I really will get around to reading that one!

I think all the story-within-a-story elements in Blind Assassin would make it a good one to discuss. I’ve got a copy of Making It Up and haven’t read it yet, though I want to. Probably any of these could get productive conversation going.

I haven’t read any of these but I do want to read A House on Fortune Street.

Totally haven’t read any of those. A couple are on my list though.

Our book group doesn’t pick books in advance like this. Interesting.

I thought Blind Assassin was BLEHHHHHH. I’d pick Olive Kitteridge…gotta discuss something that won the Pulitzer!

I haven’t read any of these but Loving Frank, House on Fortune Street and Silver Pigs are on my mental list. My group rewards the hostess (for cleaning and cooking dinner) by letting her pick the next month’s book. It is great motivation! I always offer to host when I know I need to clean the entire apartment.
