The View From Monday

12 Oct

book stackI’m participating in It’s Monday, What are you reading? at J. Kaye’s Book Blog.  Head over there to see what others are reading.

Looking Back

I’m looking back to the beginning of the month, since I skipped last week. If I’ve reviewed the book, I link to it.

I finished the Betsy-Tacy books (by Maud Hart Lovelace)! This week I read books 9 & 10 (Betsy and the Great World & Betsy’s Wedding , last week I read 7 & 8 (Betsy was a Junior and Betsy and Joe).  I enjoyed them all.  Betsy and the Great World was my favorite, I should have the review up soon!

I discussed The Thirteenth Tale by Diane  Setterfield with my Book Club M last week, and listened to it the week before.  I’d declare it a success.

I also finished listening to The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie by Alan Bradley, which I had abandoned to read The Thirteenth Tale in time for the discussion.  I then finished The Merchant of Death by D.J. McHale, which I’d left for The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie because Merchant hadn’t been working for me at the time. It’s been that kind of month.

On paper, I also read Beat the Reaper by Josh Bazell (which I really enjoyed, and have a giveaway posted for) last week and Breaking the Bank by Yona Zeldis McDonough (which I liked but had more problems with) the previous week.

It was a good couple of weeks of reading, but not as good for review writing– I need to catch up!

Looking Forward

I’m currently (re)-listening to The Deception of the Emerald Ring by Lauren Willig. It is the 3rd book in the Pink Carnation series. I bought the 4th from Audible, and it had been long enough that I wanted to get the context back. I’m picking this up again– when my player died, I abandoned it for The Merchant of Death

I’m also reading The Financial Lives of the Poets by Jess Walter for a  TLC Book Tour next week.

Beyond those, I have some flexibility! I don’t have any other commitments, since I’m not sure if I’ll be able to participate in Twitter Book Club next week.

What are you reading?

I just finished listening to A RULE AGAINST MURDER (Louise Penny) on audio and started Carl Hiaasen’s BASKET CASE. In print I’ve started THE LAST EMBER (Daniel Levin). And I’m looking forward to a new book called SNOW ANGELS from a writer in Finland. Lots of fun stuff to read with the weather getting bad. As if I need a reason to stay inside and read! LOL
